Questions to Ask Your Fertility Doctor

About diagnosis

  • What is the likely cause of our infertility?
  • Are both partners fully evaluated?
  • Do we need any additional tests?

About the treatment plan

  • Why are you recommending this treatment?
  • Are there simpler options before IVF?
  • What are our success chances based on age and condition?
  • How many cycles would you recommend before changing strategy?

About medications

  • What are the side effects?
  • How will I be monitored?
  • What symptoms should I report immediately?

About IVF (if advised)

  • How many eggs are expected?
  • What is the plan if response is low or excessive?
  • Will embryos be transferred fresh or frozen?

Questions to Ask Your Embryologist

Many patients hesitate to ask lab-related questions — but it's completely appropriate.

About fertilization

  • How many eggs were mature?
  • How many fertilized normally?
  • Was ICSI used? Why?

About embryo development

  • How many embryos reached Day 3 or Day 5?
  • What was the embryo grading?
  • Were any embryos frozen?

About advanced testing (if applicable)

  • Was PGT recommended? Why?
  • Is assisted hatching required?
  • What are the lab's quality control standards?

Asking questions does not mean distrust. It means you are involved and informed.
